LAO Forestry Coffee (kafepá)

Kafepá is a unique coffee that is grown by the “Agro-forestry” method. “Agro-forestry” is a combination of 2 words: “Agriculture” and “Forestry” which means agriculture without chemicals or 100% organic aiming to promote eco friendly agriculture to enhance the environment’s sustainability. Shades of the forest will protect the coffee from the harsh sun and conserve the cool and humid condition for the coffee to grow and ripe consistently for the best and fresh coffee bean. Coffee protected by the forest will deliver the rich and smooth taste, together, the sweetness combining perfectly with the bitter relish, follows by the freshness resulting our unique kafepa flavor.

Original idea of developing kafepá

In the southern part of Laos, there are many coffee farms that are plant and grown under the plentiful soil. Daensanga Village of Paksong District, a 2-hour apart from the world heritage “Wat Phou”, is one of the farms that was requested for investigation. Gave us the opportunity to discover coffee using the agro-forestry method and we found the beauty of Lao Forest Coffee which was grown on the land organically. This journey has awakened our heart’s desire to support lao coffee and develop the product to what it is today.

Production process

It all started from harvesting the red cherry beans with our palms carefully and they are to be milled to fresh green beans delicately. Then, the green beans will be warmed up by the roaster and finally stocked in a coffee bag that we trust will preserve the quality of our coffee. Each and every little process of producing the forestry coffee, MERGION has given its best to control and keep the standards to guarantee that we furnish the best of quality for our customers. Our criteria of purchasing green beans: Must strictly be grown by the Agro-forestry method and the owner of the farm must be trust worthy and be able to communicate with us fluently.
